Busch Stadium

2 08 2009

My other site Dairy air is picked up by a search, that asks what do I eat at Busch statium 9at least 5 times a day). While I mentioned my cardinals staium, i never told you guys where to eat (for shame).  ever the traveler, I vist IMG00053-20090718-1527[1]plenty of ballparks and stadiums. So I decided I would anser that question for you guys here.

For the most part, i say do’nt eat in stadiums, its over prices and really not Unique. How ever Busch Staadium does have option that are a little above the conventional. One unique thing is they have a HArdess on top of the stadium, I’m not a fan of hardees, and well even fast food or meat, but its nice to see a brand name in their somweher other than Mcdonlalds. But I’m really all about the local flavor

Busch staium had good old fashion St Louis BBQ, right in the stadiyum (pun intended)! By far if you have to eat here please do that. Also for my beer lovers, there is always one deal in everystadium that everyone seems to miss. You can pay 7.50 for a bud light on draught, or 6.50 for one in the bottle, or you can head up to the nose bleads behind first plate. There is a little stand that for seven dollars, will give you bud’s new American ale, or even better, a local favorite Shcafly, totally worth saving 50 cents to walk around for.

Now for you vegetarians, tired of nachos and penuts and crappy greasy food thats seems to plague us at stadiums, unfortunatley you arent at wrigley field there are no veggie burgers here (thats right wirgley’s got em).

But there are plenty of option around the stadium that may prove results. If you wan tthe ceap and fast there always veggie friendly taco bell, but i have somewhat of a hate towards that one after my experience. Also right across the stadium are several pubs, one famous for oysters (someof my veggie friends eat fish, I sure do), and one next to it that plays folk music and even has a ticket giveaway before every game. Now wherethere is folk music two things are usually found, veggie food, and pot heads, downtown st louis it more likeley drunk cards fans, but definatley check the place out. Get full before the big game and save 20 bucks on food, becasue in downtown st louis, there are far far better options.

Just Desserts – Carmel Apple Tart

1 08 2009

IMG00174-20090731-2127[1]ok mostly i try and eat healthy, but every one needs a sweet treat now and then. Mostly I like chocolate, but one of my all time favorite non choclate desserts is anything apple (pie, cobbler, etc). I’m not a baker, but this one anyone can do and its to DIE for.

One pie crust (you can use store bought and rol it out) use a bowl and cut two round holes (save the rest for another one later)

One green apple cored, and then slice thin rings (cut rings in half)

1 table spoon melted butter.

2-4 tablesspoons sugar.

take pie crust circles, and drizzel with caramel. Then place apples in a ring around the pie crust. next brush apples with butter, and lightly dust with sugar. Bake 10-15 min

once done sprinkle a tablespoon of sugar over each tart, then using a blow torch (from creme brulee kit) and brown the top of each tart. Top each one with ice cream and just enjoy the big O in your mouth!

You have got to give Iowa a try -Corn Chowder

1 08 2009

IMG00173-20090731-1755[1]This one will make the music man sing all over again. One of my favorite treats from the road is in ceader rapids IA, the airport had corn chowder. It is delishous. Lucky for you i can give you a taste of iowa at home, and its actually better than theirs! Enjoy some of midwest best, (and no cheating get the corn and the potatoes from iowa at your local store)

1 oinion

1 leek

thyme (fresh)

2 small potatoes

3 ears of corn

1/2 cup cream

3- 4 cup veggie broth

1 cup white chedder (i get mine from whole foods called seaside chedder)

2 tablespoons butter.

melt butter in large pan, add onion, leeks and corn (off cob). let veggies cook for 3-4 minutes, add broth thyme and potatoes (shredded) let cook another 3-4 minutes. Add cream and cheese, boil. once boiling bring it down to low hear and let simmer stirring as often as necessary (this is a good crock pot dish the longer it sits the better) add parsely in the last five min, salt and pepper to taste. It should be ready in 30 min, but i love to let it sit for a few hours stirring occasionally – Some interesting ways to kick this up, add paprika and cumin, or you cant top with grab cakes, add lobster or even a nice white fish like hallibut

Simply the best, – Delirium Tremmens

1 08 2009

Delirium_Tremensok, forget all the other beers…..if there is only one i can drink the rest of my life let it be this one. Beer is becoming much more reveared culinary, beer tastings and parings are popping up everywhere. So it will never have the clout wine does, well its a shame cause this one is close.

we were in Memphis, TN. The captian said he would by us beer what ever we wanted. We of course are at the flying saucer, 60 plus beers are on draght, inculding delrium tremmens. I learned this one from my g/f along time ago as it is also one of her favs. I told the gang they need no other beer, but this one crafted in Belgium.

Sure enough one of them cracked its so smooth like drinking wine. What, BS, its like drinking the most delisous beer in the world. Try it, you can usually find it at whole foods and some beer stores (though its not common) Or stop in at a flying saucer near you!

Niagra Valley’s – Icewine

1 08 2009

Ice_WineStraight from Niagra valley, is a wine like no other. Icewine, its a sweet deessert wine, made especailly sweet by the grapes growing in colder weather. There are so many good ones to choose, but for this segment I’ll give you my favorite.

From 2004, Cabernet Franc made by peller estates, I’m not a white wine person at all, but this is such a great compliment to any dessert or even by its self cebrating over a hot summer day.

But by no mean take my word for it, take a trip up to up state New York and lower Ontario, forget the falls and go tour the regions wineries, you may be in for a real treat.

Rombauer Vineyards – 2007 Zinfadel

24 07 2009

%2FMedia%20Card%2FBlackBerry%2Fpictures%2FIMG00094-20090724-1554[1]Located in the Napa Valley region, we found this treat at a wine bar in SanDiego, I’m a pinot noir and cabernet fan myself, but this Zin is a lot of awsome in a 28 dollar bottle. Rombauer makes many other good wines as well, but this one is special to us as it was our firts trip together. Drinking it reminds me of the sandy beaches at the hotel del coranado. Hop on over to San Diego if you want the whole experience, but if you can’t go visit the site and have them deliver it to you, whats better than a bottle of red in the mail!

St Arnold- Summer Pils

24 07 2009

Sure we have all heard of Shiner, and its what we think of when we think Texas beer, Ah but there is another brewery over in houston, thats been around long before the mighty and delicous Shiner. St Arnold serves up this awesome summer ale, german style. All the great flavor of your typical gereman lager, and perfectly refreshing for a hot summer day. This is a hard one to find as it is seasonal. If your in texas, probably any Whole foods, Wal-mart, or Target will have it, otherwise check your local Beer store.

Summer Treats- No Bake cheese cake.

24 07 2009

S’more Dessert- Tillman’s Steakhouse

24 07 2009

z900Ok This is a must try for anyone, in Dallas. Located just South of the city, is a steakhouse. i know what your thinking, there is nothing new or unusual about a steakhouse in texas? Wrong. Tillmans for starters has terrific atmosphere, an open air seating area, and the whole reason I go……Table-side smores.

Yep- these gormet treats of homemade marshmellos, gram crackers, and chocolate are served for two with a little fire and riasting sticks. Totally and completly romantic, and more important delicious…..don’t leave Dallas with out trying this place. Need a great first date idea, well you can’t have all of mine, but this is for sure a good one.

Want to woo your date at home, I can’t replicate thier marshmellos, but grab a box of grams, some fine flavored chocolate, some marshmellos, and grab a unscented (very important that it is unscented) candle. Its not the same, but still a great idea for picnics and evening dinners.

Chicago goes to the (Hot) Dogs

16 07 2009

Chi town, its is known for many things, baseball ,cold weather, pizza and yes Hot dogs. I love the windy city for many things. And hot dogs are one of them. Now if your in the windy city you will want to stop in and try The wieners circle – or Chubby’s wieners…..they are two of my fav’s. Wieners circle puts a nice char of their dogs, while chubby’s well gives you really big portions. Both are a must so grab on on your way to ohare or wrigley field/

Now I dont eat meat anymore, and certaintly you would think that would put hot dogs out of the equation. So if your like me and trying to watch you wasteline, or perhaps you dont get to chicago often and you think to yourself, self I would like to try that, well lucky for you I have made that possible, enjoy my healthy chicago style Salmon Dogs…..(never worked with salmon dogs, they dont taste of salmon at all, just like a delishous hot dog, except they are full of omega 3’s and lower in fat and caleries.)
